Nova Scotia Arts and Partnership Council Welcomes New Members for 2008-09

The Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council (NSACPC) is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to the council as recommended by the Council’s Nominating Committee. One existing member is also returning for another term.

The new and returning members bring a wide variety of experience to their role:

Gregor Ash of Halifax, has worked at the Atlantic Film Festival for 13 years ans has served as the Association’s Executive Director since 2000. He has had success in book selling, the music industry, design, craft and film.

Addy Doucette of Antigonish, served as Director of Theatre with St. Francis Xavier University from 1979-2007. She has an extensive background managing, directing, producing and teaching theatre.

Paula Davis from Port Hawkesbury, is the Marketing and Events Manager for the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre and is an active grass roots coordinator of arts and culture events.

Steven Naylor who resides in Halifax, completed his PhD in Musical Composition at the University of Birmingham (UK) and teaches part-time at Acadia University. His parallel work in professional media and theatre includes scores for national parks, film and television, radio, and ongoing international theatre touring by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia.

Wanda George from Canning is a professor at Mount Saint Vincent University in the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department. She is also project coordinator for the World Heritage Tourism Research Network.

The NSACPC was pleased with the caliber of applicants and tremendous response to the call for members. The Council’s Nominating Committee would like to thank all applicants for their interest in supporting the Arts and Culture Partnership Council.

“The Nova Scotia Arts and Culture and Partnership is a productive partnership between the sector and government” said NSACPC Chair Paul Gallant. “Our new members have shown significant dedication to the sector and will add to Council’s already strong capacity to review government policy”

Other members on the council are: Donald Ferguson, Dartmouth, Terry Kelly, Halifax, Wayne MacGillivary, Pictou, Kim Reinhardt, Ketch Harbour, Linda Ross, Sable River, and Dianne Coish and Peggy Tibbo-Cameron, representing the Culture Division of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage.

In addition to accepting new members, Paul Gallant of Le Conseil des arts de Chéticamp, Joella Foulds of Celtic Colours International Festival and Jim Morrow of Mermaid Theatre will continue as the council’s executive committee for 2008-09.

Jenni Blackmore; Seaforth, Shelley Fashan, Lake Echo; Laurie Swim, Lunenburg; and Karen Diadick-Casselman, Cheverie.

The Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council, in consultation with the arts and culture sector, provides advice and recommendations to guide the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage regarding ongoing investment in Nova Scotia's artists, cultural industries and cultural activities. The Council members represent a cross-section of Nova Scotians with geographic and cultural diversity, and a broad range of experience in the arts and culture sector.
