Creative Nova Scotia: How Arts and Culture Can Help Build a Better Nova Scotia

Objective A: To review any or all culture division programs and, as needed, to recommend to the Minister revision(s) thereto...

A1: To establish a review model and an evaluation model which are both fair and workable and flexible.

A2: To have credible data collection and research to guide the evaluation process.

A3: To undertake specific program reviews and/or evaluation of division programs and provide recommendations to the Minister.

Objective B: To advise the Minister regarding the creation and implementation of new programs and/or initiatives as needed for the continued growth of the sector.

B1: To actively pursue new initiatives that could translate into growth opportunities for the sector.

B2: To encourage a better understanding in government as a whole about cultural activities.

Objective C: To foster a dynamic and direct relationship between NSACPC, the cultural sector, government and all Nova Scotians.

C1: To make a meaningful connection and create a dynamic dialogue within the sector and encourage better communication between sub-sectors.

C2: To encourage community to become more organized and strategic in advocacy efforts, i.e. establishment of a representative, member-based cultural network to act as an advocacy group that encourages growth of the sector and acts as a clearing house for information.

Objective D: To increase visibility and demonstrate the importance of the arts and culture sector for all Nova Scotians.

D1: To inform and educate the Nova Scotia public about the social, health and economic benefits of arts and culture.

D2: To identify and promote our distinct arts and culture and to educate the public as to the value of arts and culture in their daily lives.

D3: To educate members of the corporate sector to the value of connecting themselves with the arts; and to forge and foster relationships among stakeholders and with other government partners.

D4: To raise public visibility of sponsorship and achievement in the arts and culture sector.

D5: To foster the development and increase the profile of cultural sub-sectors

Objective E: To increase government, community and private resources for the sector.

E1: To build on the present $1 million dollar endowment fund with an aggressive target in place so that the return on investments be reinvested directly within the arts and culture sector in Nova Scotia.

E2: To increase resources for the sector through partnerships and leveraging.

Objective F: Build capacity within the Nova Scotia arts and culture sector

F1: To seek better protection for culture sector workers through legislation.

F2: To reduce high burnout rates among community arts organizations volunteers and staff.

F3: To work with educational institutions and others to develop/expand expertise in arts and culture sector organization and management.

F4: To work with other government agencies on establishing a "Youth Culture Corps" similar to the Youth Conservation Corps.

F5: To help in the formation of new organizations needed to address emerging culture sector priorities
